The Greater Carbondale YMCA Youth Board is compromised of nominated YMCA youth members from area high schools, who organize and coordinate activities, hold formal meetings and have governing bylaws. The Youth Board’s core motive is to assist in the betterment of the Greater Carbondale YMCA, as well as to play an active role in the community.
The group has achieved many feats such as coordinating and hosting youth dances, lock-ins, sports tournaments/programs, assisting with Kiwanis Club Kiddie’s Day events, child reading programs, fund drives, summer camps, and the community Ethnic Heritage Festival. The Youth Board annually takes part in National Youth Service Day by organizing adopt-a-highway cleanup program that stretches throughout local communities on Business Route 6. The Youth Board volunteers and assists with many YMCA functions, such as the annual Fred Ciotti Race, and acting as ambassadors for the YMCA.
Over the years, the Youth Board has raised funding to support activities, and to provide donations and gifts such as, purchasing and delivering Thanksgiving meals and holiday gifts to local under privileged families, and pledging funding to support the YMCA’s Annual and Capital Campaign.
